ReplyDeleteThis is mostly about realtionships and the importance of the mentee and mentor working collaboratively, understanding each other, maintaining an open dialogue and being abreast of the latest technology. A common time for planning and collaborating is essential for a positive experience!
When staff work together as a professional learning community--when they
ReplyDeletework together to clarify purpose and priorities, establish and contribute to collaborative teams, participate in continuous improvement cycles of gathering data on student achievement, identify areas of concern, generate strategies for improving student performance, support each other as
they implement those strategies, and gather new data to assess the impact of their collective
efforts--and when they are relentless in their efforts to improve achievement for all students, they increase the likelihood of sustained, substantive school improvement.
This to me speaks of teacher empowerment and is crucial to the development of strong new teachers. This process needs to be real and teacher driven. So much of our time now is spent completing tasks that are assigned top down that real reflection and time to process the data that we gain is hard to find. We must give new teachers and all teachers time to reflect, to complete tasks, to evaluate data and to plan accordingly.
